Lyoness is an international shopping rewards program that uses a transaction-based system, very similar to the same system model upon which credit cards are based. Each time the rewards card is presented and used, a portion of the transaction is reserved by the merchant and paid to Lyoness, from which the funds are dispersed in accordance with the internal Lyoness business model.
The purpose of Lyoness is to reward customers for purchases with the intention of creating customer loyalty, or repeat business transactions. Each time a customer shops at a participating merchant location, they are rewarded at the time of the transaction, but a second reward is stored. As a consumer continues to shop at participating merchants, their loyalty account builds and once milestones are achieved those further rewards are dispensed.
Businesses can participate by applying to become a participating merchant. If approved, they become officially recognized merchants within the network, with some standard contractual clauses as well as some customized features and benefits as decided during the application procedure.
There is no cost to sign up. There is no reward paid to a member for referring a new shopper. There is no financial activity until a shopping transaction takes place.
